Route Overview
The Vadodara to Statue of Unity route is a long-distance ride that takes you from Vadodara towards Dabhoi, Tilakwada and Kevadiya, eventually reaching the Statue of Unity.
We started around 6:00 AM from Dabhoi Chokdi and followed the route towards Dabhoi before continuing through Tilakwada towards Kevadiya.
The route works well as either a one-day endurance ride or a more relaxed two-day cycling trip.
Starting from Vadodara
An early start is recommended for this ride.
Beginning around 6:00 AM allows you to cover the first part of the route while temperatures are comfortable. This is particularly useful during December and January, when the morning weather is generally well suited for long-distance cycling.
From Dabhoi Chokdi, the route heads towards Dabhoi and then continues towards Tilakwada.
Dabhoi to Tilakwada
Once you move beyond Dabhoi, the route becomes more rural and open.
This section is a good opportunity to settle into a steady pace. Rather than pushing hard early in the ride, maintain a comfortable cadence and conserve energy for the later kilometres.
The route gradually takes you towards the Narmada region, with the landscape changing as you move further away from Vadodara.
Weather & Best Time
December and January are among the better months for this ride.
The early morning conditions can be excellent for cycling, but don't underestimate the afternoon heat.
During our January ride, the morning was comfortable, while the temperature became noticeably hotter in the afternoon.
For a one-day ride, starting early is therefore highly recommended.
Carry sufficient water and plan your nutrition in advance, especially if you intend to return to Vadodara the same day.
Shoolpaneshwar Temple
Shoolpaneshwar Temple is worth adding as a stop along the route.
If you're riding this as a leisure trip rather than a timed endurance ride, allow yourself some time to visit the temple and explore the surroundings.
It also provides a useful break before continuing towards the Statue of Unity.
Reaching Kevadiya & Statue of Unity
The route eventually brings you towards Kevadiya, the gateway to the Statue of Unity area.
Don't limit your visit to the main Statue of Unity attraction.
One of the recommended stops is the backside viewpoint of the Statue of Unity, which provides a different perspective of the monument and surrounding landscape.
Plan enough time here if you're riding the route as a leisure trip.
One-Day vs Two-Day Ride
One-Day Challenge
For experienced riders, the route can be completed as a long one-day ride.
We started early and completed the journey back to Vadodara at around 8:00 PM.
This makes for a demanding day, so pacing, hydration and nutrition become particularly important.
Don't spend too much energy trying to maintain a high speed during the first half. The return journey can be considerably harder once fatigue and afternoon heat set in.
Two-Day Option
For a more relaxed experience, split the route over two days.
This gives you enough time to explore Kevadiya, visit the Statue of Unity and nearby attractions, and enjoy the ride without having to rush back to Vadodara.
For an economical and comfortable overnight stay, BRG Kevadiya is a recommended option.
Recommended Approach
For endurance riders: Start early, maintain a controlled pace and complete the route in one day.
For leisure riders: Split the journey into two days and use the extra time to explore Kevadiya and the surrounding attractions.
Either way, an early start is the key to making the most of the route.
Route Highlights
Ride smart, start early, and keep the afternoon heat in mind. The Statue of Unity is the destination, but the road through Dabhoi, Tilakwada and the Narmada region is what makes this a memorable long-distance ride.
